Aubergine is very special to me because she was started on the day that Prince , the musical artist, died. We were blasting Purple Rain in the studio and feeling so shocked and emotional. Singing and listening to all this music, I was focused on the women he loved. They were all exotic... you could never tell quite what their ethnicity was. I couldn't get the color of that purple that came to symbolize his aura out of my mind. Prince was very into that color. I started working the pastels into the brand new archival paper I had just purchased. With my fingers , this thick aubergine colored hair came at once. Twirled into a big bun. I gave her dark green eyes because she was a deep character. I hope that the viewer can enjoy her presence and strength.

This is the picture of two woman deep in the forest. I love when people come up with what they think the relationship is... very thought provoking I hope. This piece was made in late February of 2016. I was intensely focused on the intertwining of the trees. All of a sudden the background was this rich deep blue. I hope the viewer will feel fine magic and mystery in it.

The inspiration for this work came after an emotional undoing from a love affair. There was a deep desire within to construct something...to carve out some meaning to all the pain, and earthling appeared. beautiful, brown skinned and mysterious. I couldn't have imagined her.
I hope the viewer will find a quiet peace in those sad, yet hopeful eyes. I hope the viewer would find sweetness and comfort in her wild, colorful winter hood and voluptuous figure
I love working with pastel on paper. It's the perfect flow. I don't even think. It's just this fluid motion that goes directly from my feelings to the piece.

Snow Bunny was the first girl to appear in the forest. This was during the first winter with my pastels in hand. I started drawing a nude and then these trees that had been swirling in my head I put to paper... then the blue sky hit the white clouded sky so sharply at this time. Then there it was , well my interpretation, on the paper. Then I clothed her... I loved the patterns that were inspired by knit tops and undergarments. You can see her body through the clothes. It just Was right when it happened... all by chance. No thinking. I just let go and let the pastels do there thing.
I hope the viewer can find playfulness as well as sensuality in this work.

This work was a revelation in self love. When you don't have it, how do you get it? I started drawing the figure with her head to the side. Full bodied and natural. Then the water. I wanted her cleansed of self loathing. If not me, then this beauty could have the calm within. The warm feeling of being st home within yourself. It is work though, I think her head leaning to the side represents surrender. But I hope the viewer takes whatever first sparks their inspiration. Be it negative or positive. I hope they find something real in this piece.

The teaching sister
This piece is brand new, started in the wave of the last election. I was so inspired by all of these woman coming together. I loved working with the ink and shaping as I went. This started out as one woman holding this basket or pot, then I wanted two woman, and as I drew I see that they are sisters. This is a picture of what working together with your kin or friends can be. It took on this other worldly aspect... an ancient quality. It is very special to me. I have a sister whom I love very much.
I hope the viewer can take a sense of wonder in all the shapes and colors. I hope this inspires the viewer to know they are not alone. I hope they take away some ancient magic from these sisters.

This piece was made with the finest pastels on archival paper at the Byrdcliffe artist Colony. She was my last piece to make there. She sits in a beautiful hand made white frame, floating, able to to see her raw edges. She lives in the beautiful home of a dear friend and patron of the arts.
This piece is very special to me because it is the first one of my woman to sit upright. I don't use models, so all my work comes from my mind. I didn't not realize, but internally I was shifting and it came out in this piece. The print I am making available on canvas right here. I think she would make a light and sensual addition anywhere she appears.
I hope the viewer can gather strength and joy from Giovannina. There is a mystery there too. in my mind she is sister to Bryony...

This is fine pastel on archival paper. I was inspired by the snow in Woodtock where I live. It is so beautiful when it first falls... the contrast of the pure white with the color of the bark on the trees is so effective. I tried to capture this. I was imagining a queen of the snow... a bride almost. Who's dress is made of snow, hair made from the bark and skin made from the earth underneath. She is a being that comes out of stark beauty.
I hope the viewer feels enchanted by this piece.

This work was made with the finest chalk pastels on archival art paper.
I was inspired to make a form sleeping. A peaceful beauty in the forest. I can see now, looking back that this was manifested by the search for serenity. All my hopes taking seed in this first sleeping girl. I felt that she was a princess or special fairy who fell a sleep in the woods. The magic of her surrounding, all tucked away, no worry to be found. She was created in February 2016, it was a historic month in this little life of mine.
I hope the viewer can find mystery, wonder and hope in the piece. Breath in her beauty as she dreams of????

Pastel and the finest paper. The piece was made in a cabin I was Living in at the Byrdcliffe artist colony. I grew up and now live in Woodstock, NY. She came out very dreamlike. I imagine she is being gently pulled up by the air or wind, out of the picture, or dhe is sliding in ever so slowly. There definitely a sexy aspect for her big bosom and nudity. But she seems in aware, she could even be about to fall asleep. I hope the viewer can find an exotic free feeling from this. As I have said, I don't work from models. The forms themselves just arrive on the paper. I don't, or at this time didn't have any plan going into it, but it's similar to writing I think . You just get into a trance like state and the rest is a mystery.
